01 · The lay of the land

A field guide to Florence.

Florence is the living museum of the Renaissance — where every piazza, painting, and plate tells a story centuries in the making.

Florence, the capital of Tuscany, is one of the world's great art cities, home to Michelangelo's David, the Uffizi Gallery, and Brunelleschi's iconic Duomo. Its compact historic center — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — rewards exploration on foot, with world-class museums, medieval markets, and riverside trattorias around every corner. The city blends Renaissance grandeur with a vibrant university culture, a thriving expat community, and easy access to the Chianti wine country beyond its gates.

Amazing city - art, food, history

Florence, Italy is an absolute gem of a city! I mean, where do I even begin? The art, the history, the food... it's all simply divine. I give Florence a solid 5 out of 5 stars, and I'm not even exaggerating a little bit. Let's start with the art, shall we? Florence is home to some of the most beautiful art pieces in the world. From Michelangelo's David to Botticelli's The Birth of Venus, you'll be blown away by the sheer talent on display. And don't even get me started on the architecture. The Duomo is an absolute marvel, and you'll feel like you've stepped back in time as you stroll through the cobblestone streets. And let's not forget about the food. I mean, come on, this is Italy we're talking about here. The pasta, the pizza, the gelato... it's all so incredibly delicious. And if you're a wine lover, you're in for a treat. Tuscany, where Florence is located, is famous for its Chianti wine. So go ahead, indulge in some carbs and vino, you're on vacation after all. All in all, I can't recommend Florence enough. It's a must-visit for anyone who loves art, history, food, or just wants to experience the magic of Italy. Trust me, you won't be disappointed!
