Eight features · one trip

Built for the trip. Not the planning.

Wanderlust is the travel app we kept wishing existed: an AI planner, itinerary builder, travel diary, and passport tracker — stitched into one place that actually feels like one place. Here's what each part does, in detail.

01 — Start here
“10 days in Japan, mostly food, one hike, under $3k.”

An AI planner that writes the first draft — you write the trip.

Most AI trip planners hand you a list and leave. Wanderlust's planner drafts a real, day-by-day itinerary grounded in live flight prices, current hotel availability, opening hours, and your calendar — then hands you a real editor, not a chat window, to refine it.

  • One sentence to draft. Dates, budget, a vibe — we fill in the rest.
  • Grounded, not hallucinated. Every flight, hotel, and restaurant is a real, bookable thing as of today.
  • Asks before it assumes. Two smart follow-ups max, then it gets to work.
  • Explains its choices. Hover any block to see why it's there — and swap with one click.
10 days in Japan. Food focus, one hike, under $3k, mid-October.
Drafting:Tokyo (4) → Hakone (2) → Kyoto (4). I'm reserving Sukiyabashi Jiro + a Hakone ryokan with onsen. Hike: Nakasendō Magome–Tsumago.

02 — Shape it
Drag days. Swap hotels. Don't open a spreadsheet.

An itinerary builder that bends without breaking.

Drag a city to day 7 and everything else rearranges — flights, check-ins, train tickets. See travel times between stops. Leave mornings intentionally blank. Your plan auto-saves, and everyone on the trip sees it update in real time.

  • Optimize Day. One tap reorders a day's stops into the shortest-travel route — and shows you the “saves ~X min” before you commit. Your hotel, flight, and timed reservations stay locked in place. On web and mobile.
  • Drag-and-drop days. Reorder cities; flights, trains, and stays rebook themselves.
  • Travel-time aware. See the drive/transit time between every stop — no more 9am departures with a 2-hour transfer you didn't see coming.
  • Real-time sync. Works across phone, tablet, web — and with your group.
  • Version history. Rewind the plan to any point. We all have that one friend.
03 — On the trip
The meal. The morning. The street you'll forget in six months.

A travel diary that gets used — on the trip, not after.

Most journaling apps assume you'll sit down at a desk. Wanderlust's diary is built for a bench in a new city: one thumb, two taps, one paragraph. Pin a photo, drop a voice note, mark a place you want to come back to. It all attaches to the day, the city, the stop on your map.

  • Entries auto-placed. Each note snaps to the city and day it came from.
  • Photos without the dump. Pin a few favorites; skip the 400 duplicates.
  • Voice notes. Record now, transcribed later. Good for the 3am-from-the-ryokan thoughts.
  • Year-end recaps. A real printed book of your year, if you want it.

DAY 3 · APR 18 · MARRAKECH

The tea was hotter than the sidewalk.

We got lost for an hour in the dyer's souk. Found a tiny doorway, climbed to a roof. The call to prayer started everywhere at once, in slightly different tempos, and the whole city sort of rearranged itself around the sound.

04 — After the trip
34 of 195. 142 cities. 287,000 miles.

A living passport of everywhere you've been.

Every country you've visited, as a stamp. Every trip, a receipt you're proud of. Mark new places in two taps, backfill decades of old trips by forwarding confirmation emails, and watch your globe fill up over the years.

  • Auto-fill from your inbox. Forward any old flight/hotel email — we'll stamp the passport.
  • Stats that mean something. Countries, cities, miles, days on the road.
  • Private by default. Your map is yours. Share one link when you want to.
  • Year-in-review. A print-ready recap each December.
05 — With your people
Four friends. Four opinions. One plan.

Group trips that don't devolve into a 200-message group chat.

Invite anyone — with or without a Wanderlust account. Everyone sees the same itinerary update in real time. Vote on dinner, split the running total, leave comments on a specific hotel. The uncle with opinions can have them, in the app, attached to the thing he has opinions about.

  • Anyone can join. A link works, even for the friend who refuses to download apps.
  • Vote on anything. “Ramen night vs. tapas” — resolved in three taps.
  • Split the total, live. Who owes whom, by trip, by day, by person.
  • Threaded comments. On the hotel. On the hike. Not in a group chat with your mother.

06 — Stay on budget
A budget that nudges, not nags.

Spending that keeps up — and flags the drift before it's a hole.

Wanderlust tracks the cost of every decision, live. When you drift over budget on flights, it quietly shows you what to swap. When you come back under, it remembers for next time. Multi-currency, multi-person, multi-trip.

  • Live budget tracking. Across flights, stays, food, experiences, the miscellaneous.
  • Drift suggestions. “Change this, save that much” — with one-tap swaps.
  • Multi-currency. In local currency, in yours, in the group's — all the same line item.
  • Post-trip breakdown. See where the money actually went. Surprises here are rare.
07 — Where the wifi isn't
Airplane mode. Subway tunnels. The second-to-last Greek island.

Everything you need, without a signal.

Before you fly, Wanderlust downloads your full trip: itinerary, maps, tickets, confirmations, even the restaurant addresses and booking codes. You can navigate, check in, and pull up a reservation without service — and sync back up when you're home.

  • Full-trip offline. Not just itinerary text — maps, tickets, all of it.
  • Auto-downloaded before you fly. 48 hours out, we preload everything.
  • Works on a dead battery. One-page “today” view fits in Low Power Mode.
  • Apple Watch surface. Your next step, on your wrist, offline.

08 — On the ground
Where am I going next, and when do I have to leave?

Trip Mode — your day, live on your phone.

Once you're traveling, Trip Mode is the in-app, on-the-ground view of your day. Open it on your phone and it shows your current stop, your next one, and a countdown to when you need to move — in the destination's timezone, with the weather right there. It runs offline-first from your downloaded trip, so it works in a subway tunnel or a dead zone.

  • Today-view with a countdown. Current stop, next stop, and “leave in 38 min” — in the local timezone.
  • Weather inline. A quick “72°F, partly cloudy” on the day, so you know what to pack for the afternoon.
  • One-tap native directions. Hand any stop straight to Apple Maps or Google Maps — works even offline.
  • Offline-first. The whole today-view loads from your cached trip; no signal required.

Trip Mode lives in the Wanderlust app on your phone — it's the travel-day companion you actually open while you're out there.

08 — Book it all
One checkout. One confirmation. One support thread.

Book flights, stays, trains, and tours — all at once.

When the plan looks right, book it. Wanderlust confirms every piece — flights, hotels, trains, experiences — in a single checkout. Same prices as anywhere else. Plus one support thread if anything changes along the way.

  • Same price or better. We never mark up; we only surface the deal.
  • One charge, one receipt. Goodbye 14 confirmation emails.
  • One support thread. Flight delayed? One chat handles the cascade.
  • Flexible refunds surfaced. We label cancellable vs. non-refundable clearly, up front.
10 — Share & discover
One place to start. One place to discover. One tap to make it yours.

Discover real trips — then plan your own version.

Every great trip starts with someone else's. Explore is one feed where shared journeys and bookable trips sit side by side, freshest first. Find one you love, hit “plan my own version”, and it copies straight into your own editable journey — your dates, your budget, your changes. When you're ready to start something fresh, Createis the single front door: it routes you by intent, whether you're planning your own journey or hosting a trip.

  • One discovery feed. /explore interleaves shared journeys and bookable trips, sorted by recency — no two apps to check.
  • “Plan my own version.” Clone any hosted or shared trip into your own editable journey in one tap.
  • One place to start. /create is a single entry point that routes by intent — plan your own, or host.
  • Yours to change. A clone is a real draft, not a read-only copy — rearrange days, swap stops, make it your trip.

Honest comparison

Generic AI guesses. Storage apps just file.

You've probably tried both. A generic AI chatbot like ChatGPTwrites a plausible-sounding plan, but it hallucinates places and can't actually touch your trip. A trip-storage app like TripItonly files the bookings you already made — it never plans anything. Wanderlust is the one that's grounded in real city, cost & safety data, writes the plan straight into your trip, and then lives it with you offline on the ground.
