A single 2nd-class adult ticket costs CHF 7.00; tap-to-pay with a contactless card or use the SBB app on the platform. Trams are an alternative — Line 10 takes ~35 minutes and offers scenic street-level views of the city, at the same fare. Taxis and Uber are available outside arrivals but cost CHF 55–75 and take 20–40 minutes depending on traffic. The Zürich Card (from CHF 29/24 hrs) covers the airport train and unlimited city transit — a strong value if you plan to visit multiple museums on day one. Long-distance trains from Basel, Bern, Geneva, and other Swiss cities arrive directly at Zurich HB.

Zurich's public transit network (ZVV) is one of the most efficient in the world, integrating trams, buses, S-Bahn trains, boats, funiculars, and cable cars under a single zone-based ticketing system. A single city-zone ticket (Zone 110) costs CHF 4.60 for 1 hour; short trips up to 5 stops are CHF 2.80. A 24-hour day pass starts at CHF 9.20 for one zone. Buy tickets at machines at every stop (switchable to English), or use the SBB Mobile or ZVV apps — digital tickets are auto-validated on purchase. The Zürich Card (CHF 29/24 hrs or CHF 53/72 hrs) bundles unlimited transit across all city zones — including the airport — with free or discounted entry to 40+ museums; it pays for itself quickly. For Switzerland-wide travel, the Swiss Travel Pass also covers all ZVV services. Most Old Town highlights are walkable; the iconic Polybähnli funicular connects the city centre to ETH Zurich's viewing terrace. Taxis are expensive — Uber is cheaper but still a premium over transit.

Summer (June–August) is Zurich at its most vibrant. Average temperatures hover around 23–25°C, the lake and river 'badis' (public baths) are packed with swimmers, and the festival calendar is wall-to-wall: Zurich Pride (June), the Caliente! Latin music festival (July), and the world-famous Street Parade — one of Europe's largest techno parties — in August. Days stretch to 15+ hours of light. The trade-off is peak prices and peak crowds. Spring and early autumn offer the sweet spot: May brings blooming parks and the quirky Sechseläuten festival (where locals burn a snowman to predict summer weather); September and October deliver golden foliage, the Zurich Film Festival, and harvest wine day trips — all with noticeably lighter crowds and lower rates. October and November can turn grey with the notorious 'Nebelmeer' (sea of fog) that fills the valleys. Winter is cold (lows near 0°C) but atmospheric: the Christmas Village at Sechseläutenplatz, festive markets, mulled wine, and easy day-trip access to Alpine ski slopes make it a rewarding off-season choice — though January and February see very limited sunshine.
