The easiest direct route is Carris Metropolitana bus 3710 from Areeiro in Lisbon, which takes about 55 minutes and costs €2.60, running every 15–30 minutes depending on the season. A second, less frequent service (3709) departs from Marquês de Pombal at the same fare and duration. The more scenic option is the Transtejo ferry from Cais do Sodré to Cacilhas (about 10 minutes), then a connecting bus—3011 (around 35–40 minutes) or 3022 (around 43–45 minutes)—onward to Costa da Caparica, with combined fares typically around €4. Driving via the 25 de Abril Bridge takes roughly 25–30 minutes from central Lisbon. For the quieter southern beaches, bus 3012 runs from Cacilhas to Fonte da Telha in about 50 minutes.

Once in town, the northern beaches are walkable along a seafront promenade. In peak summer (June–September), a seasonal tourist train called the Transpraia runs about 9km south along the coast, stopping at numbered beaches including Beach 19 near Fonte da Telha. Local Carris Metropolitana buses connect the town center to Fonte da Telha and other southern points for those who prefer not to walk or cycle the dunes.

The warm season from late June to late September brings the sunniest, driest conditions, with August highs around 25°C (77°F) and plenty of beach-ready weather, making May through October the sweet spot for swimming and sunbathing. Surfers, however, should note that autumn and winter actually bring the most powerful swells, while summer waves soften into something more beginner-friendly. Shoulder months like April–May and September–October offer a quieter, less crowded experience with still-pleasant temperatures, while the off-season (mid-October to March) turns the town quiet with many tourist facilities closed.
